Our district is a major public transit hub, with the Sheridan and Addison Red Line stations, and the Belmont Red/Brown/Purple Line hub running through it, as well as more than a dozen CTA bus lines. Having these public transit corridors is what allowed Chicago to become an economic hub in the first place, and now it is how thousands of people get to and from work every day. We must make sure that we continue the funding of these mass transit systems and continue to modernize it. This not only ensures we remain able to get to work but provides jobs that can’t be outsourced.
We should work to make the whole system more interconnected between CTA, Metra, and Amtrak, such that public transit becomes the default for getting around, rather than driving. This reduces the pollutants cars put in the air, and the congestion on the streets we see every day.
I support the funding and expansion of high-speed rail. It will create jobs, protect the environment, and provide a more affordable alternative to flying or driving.
